LARKE optics and DARKROOM present a debut collaborative collection of unisex sunglasses for summer 2014. The series marries LARKE’s handcrafted approach and fastidious finishing with Darkroom’s singularly bold, graphic aesthetic.
A strict monochrome palette has been chosen to emphasise Darkroom’s fascination with materials, surfaces and finishes used in architecture and furniture design. Audaciously patterned Italian acetates have been hand-selected to cleverly mimic the look of marble, terrazzo, mosaic and resin. These formidable materials are playfully reappropriated and condensed into two signature LARKE shapes: Veda, a bold circular frame, and Gill, a thick-rimmed frame with a distinctive keyhole shape.
Emerging from a shared ethos that foregrounds design experimentation, artisanship and attention to detail, this limited edition eyewear series boasts angled hand milling techniques. The use of premium Zeiss solar protection lenses and exclusive Italian materials has resulted in a refined edit of graphic, handmade eyewear.
LARKE x DARKROOM present their limited edition eyewear collaboration as part of a specially designed window installation at Darkroom’s central London boutique from Thursday 22 May 2014.
LARKE creative director Laura Nicholson had the honour of designing an exclusive pair of bespoke frames for Sir Elton John.
Commissioned especially for Sir Elton for a highly anticipated private performance at London’s iconic Battersea Power Station inaugural summer party. The salubrious event was attended by an intimate list of just 2000 guests, that included Grace Jones, Eva Herzigova and Sir Ian McKellan.
True to LARKE’s signature aesthetic the one off, custom made frames were hand carved in the unmistakable skyline of the power station and its famous chimneys, and assembled in a chic monochrome palette of juxtaposing matt black and pearlescent white. To finish, they were hand embellished with over 300 individual Swarovski crystals that undoubtably culminated in a statement frame embodying monochrome glamour on an industrial scale.
